Mastering the fine art of PR

The betterpr story began 25 years ago.

It was a time when we did research in the local library and it took a day to prepare and issue a press release.  It's staggering how the way we communicate has transformed since then.  But if there's one thing that's as strong as ever, it's our founding principle of customer first and how much we care about doing the best for clients.  Companies choose us because we’re highly experienced, uncomplicated in our approach, and we go the extra mile.  Known for our hardworking, down-to-earth style, we’re able to give individual attention and focus on communications campaigns that deliver results.

We are challenging and realistic with clients, and we set clear goals and measurable targets.  The difference is that our working principles are based on being fully transparent and wholly accountable.  Clients get senior level advice from people who care. Well respected in media circles, our approach to good communications is based on media know how, creativity, energy and meticulous attention to detail.  That's why clients stay with us, global ingredients manufacturer Essentia Protein Solutions has been using our services for 21 years.  And we're proud to have won awards with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations as the Midlands’ ‘Outstanding Small Consultancy’.

About us

Juliet Betterton B.A. (Hons), Dip RSA, MCIPR

Founder and managing director, betterpr

My journey into PR wasn't exactly conventional.  A background in fine art, painting to commission, exhibiting at the Royal Academy of Arts (a couple of paintings anyway), and winning a national art competition in The Observer magazine judged by the creators of The Muppets - it's not the most obvious route to a career in public relations.  In fact it was the competition sponsors Copydex and their PR lady who introduced me, aged 15, to the world of PR.  Suddenly I was front page of The Bromsgrove Messenger, and in Blue Jeans magazine (for those who remember!), being interviewed alongside The New Seekers at the Ideal Homes Exhibition, pictured in various local newspapers up and down the UK, and very nearly made it onto Rainbow (TV).  That was a lifetime ago, but it was all good fun, and I've still got my scrapbook of newspaper cuttings (pictured: my collage 'the siege of Quebec' on the right with Kermit in The Observer).

I've specialised in PR for over 30 years, providing communications services to businesses in professional services, manufacturing, home, transport, logistics and foodservice sectors. I'm a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, and was a founder Business Board member of Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (WLEP).

Having launched betterpr in 1996, it's an honour to represent some great British brands and organisations.  One of my proudest moments was when betterpr was named CIPR Midlands 'Outstanding Small Consultancy' winner and a finalist nationally in the same category three years' running.  You can read more on my LinkedIn profile

Away from work, you might see me riding my motorbike Big Bob - always up for a challenge, I passed my motorcycle test a couple of years ago.
